THIS SEASON: A skilled breaststroker and medley swimmer, 2017 senior Kelsey Kafka became a Pac-12 finalist as a junior and has her eyes on qualifying for her first NCAA meet.
2016: Kafka turned in her top season as a Trojan as a 2016 junior and became a conference finalist, finishing fifth in the 100y breast (1:00.93) at the Pac-12 Championships. Her 11th in the 200y breast (2:12.18) was also a conference best effort for her and she took 31st in the 200y IM (2:03.81). Her 100y breast (1:00.86) and 200y breast (2:11.45) at the Texas Invitational established personal bests.
2015: Kafka competed in three races at the 2015 Pac-12 Championships as a sophomore, finishing 17th in the 100y breast (1:02.38), 20th in the 200y breast (2:15.30) and 25th in the 200y IM (2:04.09) ... She earned Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention honors ... Her top times in the 100y breast (1:02.38) and 200y breast (2:15.30) were NCAA `B' cuts.
2014: Kafka provided strong depth in the breast and IM events as a 2014 freshman, posting NCAA `B' cuts in the 200y (2:00.62) and 400y IM (4:17.36) and the 200y breast (2:14.92). She raced in three events in the 2014 Pac-12s, taking 17th in the 400y IM (4:17.36), 18th in the 200y breast (2:15.43) and 19th in the 100y breast (1:02.85).
HIGH SCHOOL: Kafka attended Torrey Pines High in San Diego, Calif., where she was the 2011 CIF San Diego Section 200y IM and 100y breast champion as a sophomore, leading her school to the team title, and won the 100y breast as a freshman as well. She competed in both the 100m and 200m breast at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials.
