Sara Zabarino placed second in the women's javelin throw with the fourth-farthest throw in school history to lead the Trojans during the first day of the Beach Opener held Jack Rose Track in Long Beach, Calif. today (March 1).
- Zabarino had a best throw of 168-2 (51.27m) to place second in the women's javelin throw. That mark moved her to fourth on the USC women's all-time top 10 list in the javelin throw. She became the first Trojan to crack into USC's top five in the event since 2010 (Marissa Minderler). Graduate student Kamryn Elgersma placed fourth with a personal-best throw of 151-1 (46.07m).
- Sophomore Matteo Mitchell took sixth in the men's hammer throw with a PR of 190-0 (57.92m).
- Freshman Jenna Gallaway placed sixth in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 166-9 (50.83m),
The Trojans will be back in action tomorrow at the Beach Opener, beginning with the women's discus throw at 10 a.m..
