Biography

THIS SEASON: Riley Scott, a 2019 senior, is a career four-time All-American and a two-time Pac-12 champion, once each in the 100y and 200y breast. One of the NCAA’s top returning breaststrokers in both distances, Scott is also strong in the 200y IM and a key on USC’s medley relays.

2018: Scott earned All-American honors for the third year in a row as a 2018 junior, helping USC to seventh in the 200y medley relay at the NCAA Championships. She finished a career-best ninth in the 100y breast, winning the B final in 59.23 after finishing 10th in prelims (59.41), 0.06 out of a top 8 finish. She just missed another scoring swim in the 200y breast, finishing 17th (2:09.15), 0.03 out of the B final. She was also 57th in the 200y IM (2:00.40) … At the 2018 Pac-12 Championships, Scott won her second conference title and first in the 100y breast (58.81), touching first by 0.23. She was second in the 200y breast (2:07.29), finishing 0.44 behind teammate Maggie Aroesty. She also swam on USC’s third-place 200y medley relay … At the  SMU Classic, Scott swept the A 100y (59.56) and 200y breast (2:08.20) finals and won the B heats of both IM races … At the USA College Challenge, Scott was second in the 200y breast (2:07.99), just off the old pool record (2:07.86) … At the Texas Invitational, Scott won the 100y breast with a PR 58.64 and took third in the 200y breast (2:08.22) and the 200y IM (1:55.63) … Scott was a 2018 CSCAA Scholar All-American first teamer and was a 2018 Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention honoree for the second year in a row.
 
2017: Scott was a two-time All-American and two-time NCAA individual point scorer as a 2017 sophomore and also won her first conference crown. At the 2017 NCAA Championships, Scott earned All-American honors as part of USC’s 200y and 400y medley relays. She also scored in both the 100y breast (14th,59.43) and 200y breast (16th, 2:09.85). She was 31st in the 200y IM (1:58.34) … At the 2017 Pac-12s, Scott won her first conference title by taking the 200y breast in a PR 2:06.20. She also repeated as a 100y breast finalist, finishing second in 58.92 on the same night she won the 400y IM B final in 4:09.80, two more PRs as well as USC’s top times of the year in the respective events. She also swam on USC’s school-record-setting 200y and 400y medley relays that finished third ... Scott was unbeaten during the dual meet season in both the 100y (winning seven times) and the 200y breast (winning five times) … At the 2017 U.S. Summer Nationals, Scott took third in the B final of the 200m breast in 2:27.96 (She missed qualifying for the A final by 0.04). She was also fifth in the B final of the 50m breast (31.85) and sixth in the B final of the 100m breast (1:08.74) ... Scott earned Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention honors.
 
2016: Scott earned All-American honors as a 2016 freshman, swimming on USC's school-record-setting 400y medley relay that finished sixth. She also scored individually at the NCAAs, finishing 12th in the 100m breast (59.85), and helped USC win the B final of the 200y medley relay. She was also 43rd in both the 200y breast (2:12.88) and the 200y IM (1:59.35) ... Scott was a three-time finalist at the Pac-12 Championships. At the conference meet, she was second in both the 100y (59.31) and 200y breast (2:08.84) -- both PRs -- was eighth in the 200y IM (1:56.80) and swam on both of USC's medley relays... She had a USC-best 14 dual meet wins, including six in the 100y breast, seven in the 200y breast and one in the 200y IM. Three of Scott's wins came in USC's upset of Cal ... At the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials, Scott finished 25th in the 100m breast (1:09.24), 46th in the 200m breast (2:32.93) and 97th in the 200m IM (2:21.89).

HIGH SCHOOL: Scott prepped at Petaluma (Calif.) High, where she was a 2014 CIF North Coast section winner in the 200y IM and took second in the 100y breast ... At the 2015 NCSA Junior Nationals, she won the 200y breast (2:11.89) for the second year in row, was fourth in the 100y breast (1:01.28) and was fifth in the 50y breast (28.69) ... At the 2015 U.S. Nationals, she was 22nd in the 200m breast (2:32.14) and 23rd in the 100m breast (1:10.85). She was also 23rd in the 200m breast in 2014.

PERSONAL: Scott was born on Aug. 14, 1997. She is majoring in international relations ... Scott is an active member of the USC Athletic Department and campus community. She is the President of the Trojan Athletic Senate and the Director of Networking for Society 53, the executive board of the USC Student Alumni Society. She works as a research assistant for Professor Steven Lamy in the USC School of International Relations. She has represented USC on the Pac-12 Legislative Council in the Spring and Fall of 2018 and was a member of the Pac-12 Leadership Council in the Fall of 2017.
