Biography

THIS SEASON: Kendyl Stewart, a career eight-time All-American, two-time Pac-12 title winner in the 100y fly and a U.S. National Team swimmer, is a 2016 senior co-captain who is one of the top sprint butterflyers and backstrokers in the country. She is also versatile enough to score major points in the free and IM events and is a vital cog on relays. She is USC's record holder in the 100y fly and 200y back and is part of two relay records. Stewart represented the U.S. at the 2015 FINA World Championships.

2015: Stewart was a three-time All-American and won her second Pac-12 title in the 100y fly as a 2015 junior. She lowered her school record in the 100y fly to 50.92 en route to third place at the 2015 NCAA Championships in her first `A' final in the event. The swim broke her USC record of 51.03 set in prelims. Stewart, who was 27th in the 200y back (1:53.92), also earned All-American honors as part of USC's fifth-place 800y free relay and the seventh-place 400y medley relay. She also earned points on the 10th-place 200y free relay ... At the 2015 Pac-12 Championships, Stewart claimed her second career Pac-12 title in the 100y fly with a 51.10. That was the first of three times in 2015 she broke her original record original set at the 2013 Pac-12s. Stewart also won a pair of `B' finals, taking ninth in the 100y back (53.67) and ninth in the 200y back (1:55.28.). She swam on four relays, including the third-place 400y free and medley relays ... Stewart swam for the U.S. at the 2015 FINA World Championships, racing in four events and earning a silver medal as part of the U.S. 400m medley relay team that broke a world record in prelims. She later swam on America's fourth-place 400m medley relay. Stewart just missed a pair of finalist appearances, taking ninth in the 50m fly (26.07) and 10th in the 100m fly (58.14) in semifinal swim ... She was a 2015 Pac-12 All-Academic selection for the second straight year.

2014: Stewart was a two-time All-American and a two-time conference finalist as a 2014 sophomore. Though suffering from an illness during the NCAAs, she was able to help USC's 200y free relay and 400y medley relay qualify for `A' finals. She was 18th in the 100y fly (52.35) and 35th in the 200y back (1:55.84) ... At the Pac-12s, Stewart was second in the 100y fly (51.36) as she tried to defend her 2013 title, touching 0.10 out of first. She earned her first trip to the Pac-12 100y back `A' final, taking sixth in 53.09 and finished first in the 200y back `B' final for the second year in a row (1:54.93) ... Stewart rebounded at the national level in the summer of 2014. She won a pair of titles at the 2014 U.S. Nationals on back-to-back days, first claiming the 50m fly (25.99) and following that up with a victory in the 100m fly (57.98) ... The strong showing earned her a trip to the 2014 Pan Pacific Championships, where she won a bronze medal in the 100m fly (57.82, 0.18 out of first) and a silver in the 400m medley relay ... She earned 2014 Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention honors.

2013: Stewart was a three-time All-Americas as a 2013 freshman, highlighted by a fourth-place finish with a school-record 1:51.28 in the 200y back at the 2013 NCAA Championships. She also helped USC's 200y free and 200y medley relays to sixth-place finishes. She missed a spot in the 100y fly final by 0.02 and came back in the consolation final to tie for first at 51.89. She was also 23rd in the 100y back (53.24) ... At the 2013 Pac-12s, Stewart broke USC's school record with her title-winning swim in the 100y fly in 51.32. The time erased Lyndsay DePaul's 51.34 from 2011. She was also 10th in the 100y back (53.27) and won the 200y back `B' final for ninth (1:53.44) ... She also was part of USC's second-place and then-school-record setting 200y free relay (1:28.50) and Troy's second-place 200y medley relay (1:36.41) ... At the 2012 U.S. Winter Nationals, Stewart was second in the 100y fly (51.89), fifth in the 200y fly (1:57.47), sixth in the 200y back (1:55.20) and seventh in the 100y back (53.09). She is a member of the 2012-13 U.S. Junior National team in the 100m fly and 200m back ... Stewart was a four-time finalist at the 2013 U.S. Summer Nationals, including a second in the 50m fly in 26.19 (she was the top seed out of prelims in 26.26). She tied for seventh in the 100m fly (59.52) and was seventh in the 50m (29.09) and 100m back (1:01.14). She was also fourth in the 200m back prelims (2:10.22), but didn't race in the final ... At the 2013 World University Games, Stewart earned a bronze for the U.S. in the 400m medley relay after helping the U.S. qualify for the final by swimming the opening backstroke leg in prelims (where America finished second). Stewart swam in the final of the 200m back, finishing seventh in 2:12.19. She went 2:11.85 in the semis. She also reached the semifinals of the 50m back with a prelim 29.26, but did not make it to the final, taking 15th in the semis (29.58) ... Stewart also will represent the U.S. at the 2013 Duel in the Pool.

HIGH SCHOOL: Stewart, who prepped at La Costa Canyon High in Carlsbad, Calif., won a silver medal at the 2011 World Junior Championships in the 50y fly and was a fifth in the 100y fly and sixth in the 200y back. At the 2011 CIF San Diego Division Championships, she set a national age group record (15-16) with a 52.43 in the 100y fly, breaking a mark held by Katie Hoff. She also owns the 100y fly record in the 13-14 age group. She is in her second year as a member of the U.S. National Junior team ... At the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials, Stewart posted three top 40 finishes, taking 25th in the 100m fly (1:00.28), tying for 29th in the 200m back (2:25.17) and finishing 37th in the 100m back (1:03.02).
